"I thought I would share this: I can remember doing the race when it celebrated it's 25th year! Back in those days it was a 3 lap coarse in a completely different part of Weymouth and had to be moved when they built the new road 'Weymouth Way', which cut it in half. It was then organised by St Pauls Harriers and back then nearly everybody in EHH turned out for this popular race, and race it was! St Pauls used to reward different medals for times achieved. There was one for sub 60 minutes, one for sub 70, and another for all times over this. Unlike todays race, that has a wonderful start on Weymouth seafront, the one back then started at a lampost in Shirecroft road! We were all very determined to get the sub 60 medal, and therefore trained on the coarse for weeks preceding the race itself. The very first time I did it, I ran around with Andy Mathews, EHH first treasurer. He had already achieved a sub 60, so was helping me do the same. We had worked out exactly what times we needed to do for each lap, a fast first, a steady second, and an all out last. We did it in 59:58 and it was the greatest feeling, my first sub 60 minute 10 mile. I am in training for this years race, and I am visualising a sub 70, I wonder!"
