Sunday Social Runs

The original idea was to have a monthly cross-country run over the winter period, which would allow daylight running as a Club, until the summer training begins again at the end of March. The format is very similar to Tuesday evenings in that we will meet at or near to a public house which serves as the start and finish to the run. We have been setting off mid-morning and arriving back to time for lunch and refreshment (for those who want it). The Sunday morning runs have been an opportunity to explore new, challenging and picturesque areas, which have so far included Corfe Castle, Shaftesbury and Lyme Regis. The routes have been devised with all abilities in mind so the Sunday Social invitation extends both to faster and slower runners, as well as the walkers in the club. Just like Tuesday evenings, no-one will get left behind. Distance varies between 8 and 10 miles, provided we don't get lost. Extra loops and shortcuts are usually available. Route maps can be viewed through the club website, but don't let the contour lines put you off. They are all flat on the average.

As these social runs appear to be growing in popularity, there is a demand to continue them during the year, to supplement the main Tuesday night training.

If anyone wants to suggest a Sunday route, please speak to me (Damian).

Treasure Hunt

Mainly because I've never done one, I would like to plan the April social run as a Treasure Hunt. I am open to suggestions from anyone who has experience of these, but have in mind groups of 3 or 4 individuals, lots of cryptic clues, interesting locations, fun and prizes.

The Rat Run

Back by popular demand. The King and Queen rats have been busy in their lair devising an event to rival the frolic of last year. They are confident that it will be bigger, better and belchier! The provisional date for this event is 25th June 2011. As before, the run will start (and hopefully finish) at the Axe Farm campsite in Axmouth. All participating vermin are encouraged to pitch a tent so that they can enjoy the barbeque and beer on Saturday evening. It is completely reckless and irresponsible, but one of the best things you will do all year.

The Bash

You can expect more festive frivolity in December. Details to follow.

The Annual Dinner

The Weymouth Golf Club proved an ideal venue for the 2011 Dinner and so the 19th hole has been booked again for an evening of good food, drink and entertainment on Saturday 4th February 2012.

If anyone has any suggestions for anything, within reason, please let me know.

Have a great year.
